Rewind: The Numbers Game

Bakit numbers?

I was browsing our OPM CD collections and I saw a couple of compilation albums and I thought to myself, "What could be a unique idea for a themed OPM compilation album?" And then it hit me:

Numbers.

That's right, let's make a hypothetical compilation album comprised of songs with numbers in their title. But before we get going, let's set some ground rules in selecting the songs first.
1.) The official title should have a numeral in it (e.g. 1,2,3) and not words (e.g. one, two, three)
2.) Only one version of the song could be included in the list (e.g. We have Bakit Pt.2, Bakit Pt.2 (acoustic), and Bakit Pt. 2 (2014). Only one of those three could be included.)
3.) Songs that have alternate versions whose title has a number on it is included (e.g. Mata and Mata 2) but not if the number added is a year (e.g. Jopay and Jopay (2014))

So, let's begin! The fun starts after the jump!

1.) 214

Original Artist: Rivermaya.
Original Album: Rivermaya
Year Released: 1994

We start off this hypothetical album with arguably the single most famous OPM song that has a number on it's title. The opening of this song with the piano and all just feels like the perfect opening to this album of ours.

2.) 21 and Counting

Original Artist: Typecast
Original Album: The Infatuation is Always There
Year Released: 2004

Probably the least known of all the songs in this album, but also probably one of my favorite songs in here. This Typecast song is just screams, well, Typecast! I've always thought that this is about 21 (years) and counting of waiting. Listen to the lyrics, it kind of makes sense that way.

Also you go from 214 to 21 and counting.

...

Wala lang.

3.) 22

Original Artist: Spongecola
Original Album: Palabas
Year Released: 2004

Spongecola makes an appearance on this album with a song from their debut album.

Now this makes more sense, from 21 and counting, you go to 22. NICE.

4.) 2 Trick Pony

Original Artist: Sandwich
Original Album: Thanks to the Moon's Gravitational Pull
Year Released: 2003

"I want, to move on.." And move on the list we do! Track number 4 in our album is 2 Trick Pony by Sandwich. This song is one of the signature songs from the Marc Abaya fronted Sandwich.

5.) Bakit Part 1

Original Artist: Mayonnaise
Original Album: Mayonnaise
Year Released: 2004

Next up is a song courtesy of Mayonnaise! Bakit Part 1 is the lesser known "part" of Mayonnaise's song, but is nonetheless a good song. I specially love it as the song reaches the end. You can just feel all the emotions. Monty is good at that, no?

6.) 68 Dr. Sixto Antonio Ave.

Original Artist: Eraserheads
Original Album: Natin99
Year Released: 1999

And we have our first Eraserheads song! I swear it feels like I can't write an OPM-related article without having to mention the EHeads. Most of you probably don't know this song, or would be taken aback by it, but this song grows on you. I guarantee that.

7.) Bakit Part 2

Original Artist: Mayonnaise
Original Album: Mayonnaise
Year Released: 2004

If there is a part 1, then there definitely is a part 2! My favorite Mayonnaise song has various versions already (as mentioned above), but I'm sticking with the original.

8.) 1995

Original Artist: Eraserheads
Original Album: 2014
Year Released: Esquire Eraserheads

And the 'Heads are back! I mean, they are back! They released two new songs, 1995 and Sabado, last September 2014. 1995 makes the list as song numero otso.

9.) Back2Me

Original Artist: Eraserheads
Original Album: Cutterpillow
Year Released: 1995

Back-to-back Eheads hits with Back2Me this time. Coming from their legendary album, Cutterpillow, this is a fun upbeat song that talks about a couple that just broke up. Give it a try!

10.) Mata 2

Original Artist: Mojofly
Original Album: Now
Year Released: 2005

The only 'alternate' version to make the album, Mojofly's Mata 2 is a slower rendition of their song Mata. Unfortunately I couldn't find a copy of it online.

11.) 14

Original Artist: Silent Sanctuary
Original Album: Fuschiang Pag Ibig
Year Released: 2007

And we end this hypothetical album the same way that Silent Sanctuary ended their 2007 album Fuschiang Pag Ibig, with the song 14. If you love Silent Sanc, you'd love this song.

That's about it folks! Boy, was the early 2000s a great time for OPM or what?

What do you say? Did I miss any song? Any suggestions? Hit the comment button and let me know!
