L.C.A.- Going Super

"Why be super?"

So last Sunday I went on a mini-movie marathon, where I watched two superhero movies, namely, The Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises. Have I told you that I love superhero movies? I always get hyped up after watching these kind of movies. It makes me feel like I can be a superhero too. And that's what this post would be about. "If you were a superhero, who would you be?"

I decided to narrow down my answers to three superheroes, which you would see after the jump. But before that, let me share another one of my favorite comic book heroes. None other than the Boy Wonder, Richard 'Dick' Grayson.

For those unfamiliar with him, this image might help:

Grayson was the original Robin, and he is my favorite among all those that have operated under the guise of Robin. Something about Dick Grayson just appeals to me. Most likely, it is how much his character has endured and evolved through the years, going from the sidekick Robin, into becoming a superhero himself as Nightwing, to eventually "fulfilling his destiny" and inheriting the cowl and being Batman (albeit he returns to becoming Nightwing again).

Okay then let's go on with the three superheroes I would like to be if given the chance!

Since we have started with a hero from Gotham City, let's continue with it as the first superhero in this list is none other than the caped crusader, Batman!

Who is Batman?

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years (or decades), there is no way that you won't recognize who Batman is. Batman is a fictional character in the universe of the DC Comics who is also known as the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, and the World's Greatest Detective, among other titles.

Batman is based and operates in the fictional city of Gotham, and his secret identity is that of American billionaire playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist, Bruce Wayne. Though there have been other people to wear the cowl of Batman at times, Wayne is still the one most associate to as the Batman.

What are his powers?

Unlike a typical comic book superhero, Batman does not possess any superhuman powers. Instead, he uses his intellect, detective skills, science, technology, and a bevy of gadgets, wealth, peak physical prowess, martial arts skills and various other skills to aid him in his war against crime.

Why be Batman?

For one, he is the World's Greatest Detective. I just love detectives. Solving crimes, figuring out patterns and orders, recreating what happened, those stuff. So for a superhero whose has being a detective as one of his main points, Batman has just this certain appeal that makes me like him more compared to other superheroes. Also, I just prefer those intelligent heroes compared to those that are mainly built around morals (like Superman), or strength (like the Hulk), or will power (like the Green Lantern Corps), or just bad-assery (like Wolverine).

Just a..ugh..bad day at work, that's all!
Plus, who wouldn't want to throw a Baterang (unpractical as it may seem), have a base in a cave under your mansion, and just terrify the heck out of bad guys with that costume. Not to mention that your everyday identity as Bruce Wayne is a billionaire genius playboy philanthropist, which sounds a lot like...

Iron Man!

Who is Iron Man?

Again, unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, you have no excuse not to know who Iron Man is. Iron Man is a fictional character in the universe of the Marvel Comics, and is arguably one of the main reasons for the recent resurgence and success of comic book superhero movies.

The man beneath the Iron Man armor is billionaire Tony Stark, head of Stark Industries. He suffered a severe chest injury during a kidnapping, where his captors forced him to create a weapon of mass destruction. Instead, Stark creates a suit of armor to save his life and escape captivity. He then builds upon this suit of armor, and uses it to protect the world as Iron Man.

What are his powers?

Much like Batman, Iron Man doesn't have any inherent superhuman powers. Instead Tony Stark relies on his intellect and technology as he builds his Iron Man armors. These armors gives Stark an array of abilities and powers, as some of his armors are specialized to do certain tasks. Though the weapon system of his suits have changed through the years, his standard offensive weapon has always been repulsor rays that are fired from the palms of his gauntlets.

Later on though, Stark essentially rewrites his own biology by injecting modified techno-organic virus-like body restructuring machines to save his own life. This gave him enhanced healing factor, and led to him being partially being merged with the Iron Man armor.

Why be Iron Man?

One thing you need to know about me is that I absolutely love robots. I grew up watching Voltes V and Voltron and the like, and that love continued to the Gundams. And Iron Man is basically a robot, with a man in it, like most of those robots I grew up with. Not to mention that Stark is yet another one of those smart heroes so that is definitely a plus.

Another thing, I love versatility and variance. And all those versions of the Iron Man suit gives that sense of versatility i'm looking for. To continue to reinvent and improve is an aspect of Iron Man that really appeals to me.

Given that my two first answers were smart heroes, do you sense who my last answer would be? It is your friendly neighborhood, Spiderman!

Who is Spiderman?

Okay, I'm thinking you are indeed living under a rock. Spiderman is yet another fictional character from the universe of Marvel Comics. His secret identity is Peter Parker, a teenage student who was bitten by a radioactive spider, giving him his super powers. Pretty basic eh?

Well not so much. You see, right now Spiderman is still Peter Parker, but Peter Parker is not Peter Parker. If this is news to you, then I don't want to confuse you guys so much. Just search the net for it.

What is his powers?

Spidey's primary powers are superhuman strength, reflexes, and balance, wall climbing, and precognitive sense of danger, or more commonly known as the spidey-sense. He also has enhanced healing, though it is not at par with those of other superheroes like Wolverine or The Hulk.

The most recognizable of all of his powers is his web shooting ability. This ability originally started with Spiderman using a web shooter and artificial webbing (much like what is shown in The Amazing Spiderman movie). Later on, he would acquire the ability to shoot organic web from his wrists without needing the aid of a web shooter or webbing (similar to what is portrayed in the movies Spiderman 1-3).

Why be Spiderman?

Again, smart hero. Then, who wouldn't want to swing around buildings? I mean, flying is nice and all, but it is kinda cliche. Web slinging though, is not. Not to mention that having the spidey-sense would really come in handy.

Another thing, Spidey has gone through a lot of costumes. That's just a plus for me.

Finally, Spiderman trash talks with so much wit. He responds with smart-ass remarks, and I'd like to think I would do the same thing if I were a superhero.

PLUS! SPIDER PIG!
